Simple Dreams
There seem to be a lot of us out there right now that would like to live a little more simply. Whether your dream is to go full scale off-grid homesteading, be an urban or rural farmer or just have a lighter impact on our environment. We spent 10 years on our organic farm on the Big Island of Hawaii, totally off the grid. We cooked our meals on a wood stove and harvested from our large gardens. Our homestead was powered by solar, had hot water from solar and composting outhouses. We built our houses out of ferrocement, they should easily last for a couple hundred years! In living the dream(which we hope to get back to as soon as we can)we learned a lot. Sometimes it wasn't the big things that made the biggest differences. We wanted to share those products that helped us out on our way, and those that we WISH we would have had. We would love to hear about products that you loved also. So fellow dreamers, urban or rural farmers, off-gridders, permaculturists, greenies, ecofriendlies, please browse our pages. We hope you find something that will make your green dreams a little easier!
Featured Items: One of the biggest challenges in living simply is laundry. We have tried the bucket and plunger method, the plain old bucket soak method, a bicycle we rigged up to agitate a washing machine, and the James washer. We had two James washers with the handles facing each. We were doing laundry for 15, so it was a full time job! We would take a handle in each arm and row back and forth. Yes, it was a great workout! After years of doing this we decided we wanted to put more of our time into the land and we upped our solar array and got an extremely efficient Staber washing machine. Hung all the clothes to dry. Here is a hand washer I always wanted to try.
This is one cool hand washer. It was always on my wish list. It can wash a 5# load in a matter of minutes. Has a patented pressure system that forces detergent into the fabric at high speed for a fast, efficient, economic and very easy wash. Uses LESS water than you would washing things by hand. It uses hot or warm water that creates the pressure needed. Portable, only weighs a little over 5#s. Please click picture for current pricing

3200 RPM spin dryer gets clothes nearly dry in only 2-3 minutes. Removes much more water and detergent from the clothes than a conventional washing machine spin cycle. Much gentler on clothes compared to a tumble dryer and nearly 100 times as energy efficient. Highly portable, only 22 lbs. and no hookup required.
